Ryan has been gone in Afghanistan for the past two weeks with my brother, Dean, on a work trip. Yesterday he surprised us by showing up at the dance studio while Elizabeth was in class.... arriving home FOUR DAYS EARLY. So today was deemed a family day and we decided that we would go apple picking since we have tried to go three other times and have been rained out repeatedly this month. WE drove to the orchard that we visit annually only to find it was closed (unexpectedly) so we headed to the one on the other side of town only to find that they had no more apples on their trees. It was an unusually harsh summer for apples causing most of them to rot on the trees and an early end to the apple season. So, instead of picking apples, we picked apples out of the crates at the farm store. They are still farm grown, and we still saw the orchard, and we still had a great time as a family!! We are so glad to have Ryan back home, and safe!!

Who would have thought that you would be picking (out) your apples in shorts and T-shirts-gotta love this extended summer weather. Can't tell you how VERY happy we are that Ryan is home and that you are once again enjoying family outings. Love you all lots-Mom/Nana
